Capvond have been involved in a variety of different GRP projects recreating items previously created in more traditional materials. The Unicorns shown were rebuilt using the fragments of the original stone statue and clay to create an exact replica of the damaged carving. Using rubber moulds in a glassfibre casing these fine specimens of horseflesh are now back in their original positions stronger and more resilient against vandalism and weathering.
When asked to provide a durable and safe surface on which some of Scotland's top entertainers would perform, we had to carefully analyse the requirements and also the healthcare of the sea lions at Blair Drummond Safari Park. The surface of the stage is entirely glassfibre, finished with a smooth but resilient isothalic gel coat pigmented to give the appearance of sand, while the stands replicate rock structures both in texture and colour.
With a light granular surface on the flat surfaces, to help the sea lions from slipping off their stands without damaging their skin, the thought and attention to detail is obviously appreciated by the stars themselves!
